Amanda Lai, LCP, ICVP

Amanda is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a BSc (Hons) in Psychological Studies in Singapore and an MA in Mental Health Counseling at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) in Deerfield, Illinois. She is also a certified Illinois Domestic Violence Professional (ICVP). As a new mother, she is also able to provide support for prenatal and postpartum mothers. A typical counseling session may look like processing past hurts and messages you have learned and transforming them in such a way that brings healing and long-lasting change in the present. Her priority is the counseling relationship and your well-being. She is a firm believer in practicing what she preaches and walking the talk as she guides you in the same way. Together, you and Amanda will work on strategies addressing core issues that trigger you, learn to develop healthy coping styles, and nurture meaningful social connections.

Integration

Amanda is an advocate of integrating counseling and spirituality. She can adopt a faith-based and spiritually sensitive clinical approach to treatment. In the therapeutic relationship, she yearns to understand clients’ worldviews and their meaning of life. She wants to understand the experiences clients have gone through as well as learn about their strengths and preferences. Listening to the client’s story BEHIND the story is a meaningful experience for Amanda. She hopes that through the therapeutic alliance, the client can see herself or himself as an individual that is worthy of love, respect, and care.

Safety

In counseling, Amanda aims to create a safe space where clients can share their stories in a confidential manner. She wants clients to know that they are heard and safe. There is no room for judgment or shame. Additionally, she is an empath and therefore feels things on a deeper level. She is detail-oriented and is gifted in being analytical with compassion. A hope of hers is for clients to feel understood and respected no matter the situation they are in. She would like clients to be willing to share their expectations and goals for counseling in sessions as they place their trust in her and the process of change.

Work-Life Balance

Apart from counseling, Amanda spends plenty of time with her family and newborn son. Amanda enjoys going for runs with her dog, making cards from scratch, reading books, and doing events photography. Additionally, eating good food is a joy to her and is an activity she likes to do with family and friends. She loves singing and making music with her spouse and youth group. She is highly involved in church and spends time discipling teenage girls weekly. Furthermore, she attends continuing education classes on a monthly basis to keep up-to-date with current research, grow professionally and personally, provide quality care to clients, and maintain her certifications.
